Running through the heart of Alice Springs , the Todd River can remain dry for twelve months or more before the fall of life giving rain. The transformation from one extreme to the other can be quite remarkable and equally, quite brief. These two images were taken over a period of 6 months.

The majestic sandstone bluff of Rainbow Valley forms an impressive backdrop to the vast flooded claypan. With no hint of a breeze to effect the watery tranquillity, these two images were taken on the same day.
