break through a dark and stormy sky south of
Tennant Creek. When it finally does, a stand
of young gums are briefly draped in the eerie and
surreal sunlight . One of Barry’s most memorable

Situated on the oldest water course in the southern hemisphere,
the Finke river , Snake Hole is a permanent water hole that
features a wealth of birdlife and a 30 foot sandune creeping
down to the waters edge.

On the evening of the 12 th of December 1992 , photographer,
Barry Skipsey climbed to the top of Anzac Hill to shoot a wild
electrical storm as it approached Alice Springs from the south.
With black & white film in his camera, little did Barry know he
would come away this amazing ( never likely to be repeated )
image of Heavitree Gap being struck by a powerful bolt
of lightening.

Taken from Anzac Hill and looking west, an intense
electrical storm peppers the top of Mount Gillen as the
accompanying thunder rolls along the MacDonnell
Ranges. An awesome site and a truly memorable
sound.

Alice Springs , a lone ghost gum stands proud as it greets
another breath taking Red Centre sunrise.

Nestled amongst the ancient MacDonnell Ranges with
the majestic Todd River weaving through it’s heart, Alice
Springs now boasts a population of close to 30,000.
‘ The Alice ’, as it is often referred to , is the true hub of
the Red Centre. This image was taken in May of 2006.

50 metres high above the surrounding sandy plain,
Chambers Pillar was named in 1860 by the explorer ,
John Mc Douall Stuart. Bathed in the light of a rich
Central Australian sunrise, like a light house , the
pillar glows as a lonely beacon standing guard over
an inland sea of sand.

Old Andado Station is the private, heritage listed
home of the National Pioneer Women’s Hall of
Fame founder, Molly Clark.

Finke River , a golden patchwork of river gums, ironwood, spinifex
and native grass, lead you to the undulating and breathtaking
Western MacDonnell Ranges .

In the mornings dusky and golden light, a Walleroo quenches
it’s thirst at a waterhole on the recently flooded Todd River .
Sitting beside the historic Alice Springs Telegraph Station,
this very waterhole gave the town of Alice Springs it name.
